Our members evening gave club members the opportunity to discuss some of the new techniques they had tried during the summer.
- Elaine Gilroy showed some of her cyanotype images of ferns and pressed flowers. The technique produced some striking silhouettes.
- Jennifer Davidson showed a collection of some of her portrait images. Jennifer prefers natural portraits without props, or candid portraits of competitors in events such as the “Tough Mudder“.
- John West showed his collection of triptychs: collections of 3 related images arranged in a panel.
- Steven Beard showed some of his pinhole photography images, demonstrating the combination of very large depth of field with a soft, dreamy look.
- George Todd showed the images he had taken on a “World of Wings” photoshoot with Fiona Brims (our earlier speaker). The photoshoot enabled him to get some creative portraits with birds of prey in a natural setting.
- Derek Muller showed some of his photographs of big cats taken on a recent holiday to Tanzania. Derek used a poly ball “bean bag” to steady his camera against the vehicle he was travelling in. He finds the poly ball version of the bean bag is light to carry when travelling and makes a good alternative to a heavy tripod.
- Finally, Joe Fowler showed his collection of cycling shots and explained how using a longer exposure and panning the shot can help show the movement. Short exposures which freeze the wheels don’t work as well.
