STEAM PUNK EXPERIENCE – Saturday, 26th April 2025 @10.00am
What to Shoot There – Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and vintage settings.
Where – Beamish Museum, Beamish, County Durham.
DESCRIPTION
This museum is ideal for steampunk and historical photos with numerous Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and vintage settings. Entry to the museum is by annual pass at a cost of £27.95 for adults though discounts are available for children and for both students and seniors.
HOPETOUN HORSE TRIALS – Saturday, 24th May 2025
What to Shoot There – Carriage driving and other equestrian events.
Where – Hopetoun Horse Trials, Hopetoun estate, West Lothian
DESCRIPTION
Some of our members will be visiting the horse trials for some unique views of the events. However, you must register in advance. Contact the club secretary if interested.
LETS TAKE SOME SHOTS OF BIRDS – Sunday 29th June 2025 @10.00am
What to Shoot There – Birds
Where – Bird Garden, Oxton, Scottish Borders.
DESCRIPTION
The challenge on this photo outing will be as follows:
Get the best portrait of a bird
Get a shot of the most colourful bird
Get a bird shot from an unusual angle
So three challenges as we wander around Bird garden. It will cost £14 or concession for £8. This will give you a year’s membership and you can return at no cost after that initial payment. They have a wonderful cafe with savoury or sweet delights. It’s a lovely, if slightly lived in bird rescue centre that I have enjoyed visiting in the past. it has some very interesting birds of all shapes and sizes.
PHOTOGRAPHY EXTRAVAGANZA – Saturday 19th July 2024 @09:00am
What to Shoot There – “Summer in North Berwick” or “That Postcard shot”.
Where – North Berwick Beach
DESCRIPTION.
Photography walk through event – photographers will meet at one end of North Berwick on the Saturday 19th of July at 8am or 9am (time to be decided) and gradually walk through or around the town or sea front over a couple of hours until they have reached the other end or have no room left on memory card ( ok, or run out of film!! ). They will be armed with any camera but photos taken must be done at a 50mm focal length.
EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SHOOT – Saturday 16th August 2025 @10:00am
What to Shoot there – Edinburgh Festival events.
Where – Royal Mile, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
DESCRIPTION.
Yes we all know what the festival is about and the plan will be to get together and capture some street photography of the happenings. More details will be given nearer the time but this is just so we can get something in the diary. meet up and take some shots in the blistering sunshine!!
ABERLADY AND BEYOND – Saturday 13th September 2025 @10.00am
What To Shoot There – Birds/wildlife, town, beach, buildings, golf.
Where – Aberlady town centre
DESCRIPTION.
We shall meet in Aberlady and take a walk out of town and along the sea front by the golf course heading back into Gosford House estate. Several spots for bird/wildlife photography with town, beach, and stately home possibilities. As this is the first photoshoot of the new season then this will be the perfect walk for beginners to team up with a more experienced member who can show a little more of how the camera works we can work on understanding depth of field – the idea will be to get a shots showing the depth of field so blurry foreground sharp subject blurry background. If you have a long lens then bring it. if you have a wide angle lens then bring it. We will cover all types of vistas so there is lots of possibilities for interesting shots and good practise shots.
AUTUMN COLOURS – Saturday 18th October 2025 @10.00am
What To Shoot There – Trees, water, bridges, etc…
Where – Dalkeith Country Park
DESCRIPTION.
This will be a walk around Dalkeith country park to capture some of the changing colours of autumn. Last year mike organised us to go to the hermitage and it may be that we have a change of venue if Mike has a better idea of where we can go. Watch this space.
What to bring – yourself, a plastic bag to sit or kneel on, and a wide angle lens or zoom to get all that crazy colour in!!
LETS GO TO THE BOTANICS – Saturday 22nd November 2025 @10.00am
What To Shoot There – Flowers, trees, garden landscapes, buildings, etc…
Where – Royal Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh
DESCRIPTION.
Lets have a lovely walk around the botanic gardens and while we are there we can set our cameras to take some double exposures, lovely vistas of the gardens, and if raining hard settle in for coffee and cake.
CRAMOND: WALK THE TIDE – Saturday 24th January 2026 @10.00am
What To Shoot There – Panorama landscapes, boats, streets…
Where – Cramond Island, Edinburgh
DESCRIPTION.
We shall go to Cramond looking for interesting panorama landscaper shots. If the tide times work then we can get out to the island. If not, then we can concentrate on the causeway, boats, streets and weir. A wide angle lens will help, but creativity flows through the camera so something amazing will spring up.
ANIMALS IN THE COLD – Saturday 21st February 2026 @10.00am
What To Shoot There – Exotic animals.
Where – Five Sisters Zoo
DESCRIPTION.
We can head to the five sisters zoo for a wander and some exotic animal shoots, in the freezing cold. but they do have a snow leopard so you may actually get to snap him in the snow!! They have a diverse range of animals and if you are lucky then you will capture a shot that shows no fence. These guys actually do a photography tour where you can get up a bit closer and they feed the animals when the tour goes round so if we can get enough people to go then I will enquire about getting a special tour. As it’s a long way away we may change venue but get this date in your diary.
