Photoshoot at Musselburgh Lagoons – 19th April

This Thursday, 19th April we will be meeting at Musselburgh Lagoons for our end of season photoshoot. We will meet at 7pm at the car park beside the boating lake, as shown the map below. You can reach the car park from the B1348 at the far side of the race course. Turn left after the race course onto the coast road and look for the sign post to Levenhall Links just after the end of the 30mph zone. Keep going to the end of the road, as shown in red. The final part of the road is often full of pot-holes. If the pot-holes are a problem, you can park at the side of the road and walk across Levenhall Links. There is also some parking at the side of the B1348 beside the houses (you can walk to the lagoons through the gate at the side of the road).

George Todd will be picking up members who would like a lift from in front of the Brunton Theatre at 6:45pm. Please contact George (georgetodd1957@me.com) if you would like a lift. Please note we will not be meeting at the Fisherrow Centre.

Musselburgh Lagoons contains a bird reserve, where birds can be seen coming home to roost around sunset. There are also ducks and swans on the lake. Bring a long lens and a tripod for the wildlife photography. There will also be trees, wild flowers, old masonry and landscapes to photograph.

The current weather forecast for Thursday evening is “sunny intervals with an 8% chance of rain”. So far so good.

The Colour Blue – Tomorrow Evening

A reminder that we have our last competition of the season tomorrow evening (Thursday, 12th April) at 7:30pm. Please bring along 1, 2 or 3 JPEG images on the theme of “The Colour Blue”, on a CD or data stick. If you are bringing images with you, please try and come early so we have time to load them before we start. If you have already emailed your images to George he will load them onto the laptop for you. The images will be judged by members on the night, and there will be a prize for the best image.

If the weather is kind to us, there will be an outdoor photoshoot next week (19th April). I will be asking for ideas on possible evening locations around the Musselburgh area.

There are still some empty slots on the library exhibition rota. If you can spare a couple of hours on a Saturday to help transfer the exhibition between libraries during the summer, please sign the sheet in room G3. We need two people per slot.

It’s Pecha Kucha Night

Tomorrow evening we have our annual Pecha Kucha night. Please bring along 10 JPEG images on a data stick or CD (inside a folder with your name) and be prepared to talk about each image for no more than 20 seconds. You can bring along any images; they don’t need to be your own work. They could be holiday images, a special occasion, images by a photographer you admire, images from a magazine you like to read or a place you like to visit, a news story, etc… If you are bringing images please try and come early so there is time to load them onto the laptop before we begin.

Before we begin, Joe will give us a summary of last Sunday’s inter-club competition, for those who missed it. (We won’t hold Joe to the 20 second rule.)

We are starting the process of engraving the club trophies for the AGM, so if you are holding a trophy please bring it along and give it to George.

Photographers needed for MAMA dress rehearsal – 11th April 2018

The club has just received the following message from Kit Millar of the Musselburgh Amateur Musical Association.  Please contact Kit directly if you are interested.

I think I contacted you last year to ask if any members of the Musselburgh Camera Club would like to come along and take photographs of our Calamity Jane dress rehearsal on Wednesday 11th April from 7pm? MAMA have always loved the photos which the camera club have taken for us – and we always make sure and send them in to our press contacts so they can put them with their reviews!

I know that usually members just contact Jane Renton (who is also our president), however she is off on holidays soon so if you do have anyone interested, can you maybe ask them to send me an email? My email address is: kitkirstymillar@gmail.com

Thanks so much – hopefully see some of your members soon!
Kit Millar

Syllabus Change and 8-way Competition Info

Musselburgh Art Club have had to cancel their joint evening with us this Thursday, 8th March. Instead, we will take the opportunity to reschedule the “Movement” set subject competition, which we missed this week because of the bad weather. We had booked the large room (G6) at Fisherrow for the art club meeting but will try to move back to our normal room (G3). If you don’t find us in the usual place, try the other room.

We have received some information about the 8-way interclub competition taking place next Sunday, 8th March. (This is one we referred to as the 12-way, but there are only 8 clubs taking part this year.) The competition takes place at 10.30am to 1pm on Sunday 11th March at the Roslin Masonic Hall, 21 Main Street, Roslin EH25 9LU. Doors open at 10am. There is no parking at the hall itself, but there is on-street parking nearby. Since this is a shorter than usual competition there is no catering planned, but you can bring along your own drinks. The judge is Graeme Webb from Hawick Camera Club.
