Club Meeting 05 October 2017 (Members Evening)

This evening we were entertained by Helen and Martin Lunden, who gave us an audio-visual introduction to the landscapes, flora and fauna of Sweden. There were some beautiful, crisp images of ice and snow, contrasting with sunny beach scenes. Martin explained that some of the more atmospheric images were made by deliberately blowing on the lens to mist it up.

Steven followed by describing his trip to photograph “The Great American Eclipse” of 21st August 2017. Steven had used this site as a guide to eclipse photography.

The key factors are:

  • You have 4 hours to photograph the partial phase of an eclipse, but only a few minutes (2 in this case) to photograph the total phase.
  • You need a whole series of different exposures to cover the full range of a total eclipse.

Here are some sites where you can find other images of the eclipse:

If you want to try yourself, the next total eclipse of the sun in the USA happens on 8th April 2024. 🙂
