MAMA Revue 2018 Photos

The club has received the following request from Jane Renton of Musselburgh Amateur Musical Association (MAMA):

I was wondering if anyone from Musselburgh Camera Club would like to come along and take some photos at our Revue dress rehearsal in January. Anyone who is interested is welcome. We just like to have a selection of photos that we can use for publicity and for our web site.

The date is the 17th January 2018 (Wed) and I can let you know the time nearer the date  it will probably start about 6:30 -7pm).

If anyone is interested please email Jane at jane.renton@btinternet.com.

Two club meetings this week

A reminder that we have two club meetings this week:

1) On Monday, 4th December 2017 we are meeting at 7:30pm at Edinburgh Photographic Society, 68 Great King, Street in Edinburgh to take part the 4-way digital interclub competition between Musselburgh, Edinburgh, Stirling and Kirkaldy. Here is a map of the location:

There is free parking in the area after 6:30pm, but you might need to hunt for a space.

2) On Thursday, 7th December 2017 we are having an extra club meeting at the Fisherrow Centre at the usual time of 7:30pm. Bring along some digital images or prints you would like to discuss with members. We’ll make it an informal members evening, and a chance to meet up before the Christmas social evening.

Beeslack This Week – New MCC Club Night on 7th December 2017

A reminder that we are not meeting at the Fisherrow Centre this Thursday, 30th November. Instead, we are meeting at 7:30pm at Beeslack Penicuik Camera ClubBeeslack Penicuik High School, Edinburgh Road, Penicuik. EH26 0QF. We will be joining Beeslack members for a talk by professional landscape photographer David Stout.

Because there are so few club meetings at Fisherrow during December this year, we have decided to add an extra members’ club evening at the Fisherrow Centre on Thursday, 7th December at the usual time of 7:30pm. Please come along and bring a few interesting digital images to show other club members and spark a conversation. I look forward to seeing what you bring along.

Club Trip to Dalkeith plus 4-way Competition Info

Jennifer is organising a club visit to Dalkeith Country Park this Sunday, 29th October 2017. If anyone would like to go, there is transport leaving from the Fisherrow Centre at 9:30am. If you would prefer to go straight to the park yourself, we are meeting at the Restoration Yard Café at 10am.

There is no club meeting this Thursday. Instead, we are meeting in Galashiels on Wednesday, 1st November to take part in the first 4-way inter-club competition. The competition takes place at 7:30pm in the Community Hall, Halliburton Place, Galashiels, TD1 2JF. There are parking bays in Halliburton Place opposite the hall and further back along the road. If coming down the A7, Halliburton Place is on the left after Glendinning Terrace on the way down the hill into the town. The hall is also an approximately 10 minute walk from the train and bus stations. Here is a map:

Outing to Dalkeith Adventure Park – Postponed

I went to Dalkeith park this morning and had a walk round the woods and walks trying to take some photographs however I was surprised  that the paths and woods were extremely wet and muddy. I have to say I found it quite challenging  and extremely slippery. Since the forecast for tomorrow and possibly Sunday is for more rain and would recommend that we cancel Sunday’s outing and reschedule when the ground has dried out a bit more (maybe I’m not as fit as I thought). I also found as it is still the school holidays the Restoration Café was full of very wet, muddy distressed children  and I couldn’t get in for a cuppa!

I did pick up some maps of the estate for anyone interested in going at a later date and will hand them out on Thursday. I’ll also phone as many people as possible on the list and let them know.

Regards Jennifer

Digital Projected Images Submission Brought Forward

Our competition secretary, George, is going away on holiday and has asked for the submission deadline for the Digital Projected Images competition to be brought forward. Please can you send your three images to George (georgetodd1957@me.com) by SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 17th (instead of the 21st September date printed in the syllabus).

The SPF rules for digital images have changed. Images must now be resized so the largest edge is no larger than 1600 pixels and the smallest edge must be no larger than 1200 pixels. This means that 4:3 ratio images can be submitted as 1600×1200 (landscape) or 1200×1600 (portrait), but a 1:1 square format image must be 1200×1200. Intermediate formats must fit within a 1600×1200 box. I will show how to do this at next week’s “Competition Requirements” presentation.

We have a very early inter-club competition this year (on 1st November, before most of our club competitions), so if you have any good digital images available now, please send them to George. The earlier we can collect these images the better.

See you next week.
