Printing information – October 2014

 Printing information October 2104

Most Camera Club members print their images at home. Most of these have been doing this for many years. We have new members and others (me included ) have lots of images on file but just can’t get round to organising their home printer to produce top quality photographic images. We collected the information below at the Club meeting yesterday. If anyone spots any errors or has any extra information to  share please add a comment.

Basic information:

Local printers process images saved in the form of .jpeg or .tiff files on some sort of file storage e.g.CD/DVD/memory stick,  or a memory card from your camera. If you’re wanting to print direct from camera don’t forget to take connecting lead to USB port. Some equipment e.g. smartphones can transfer images by Bluetooth.

For competitions most Club members print their images in A4 or A3 size. See below for size tables. You can also make square, or letterbox  prints but similar scale.

                             International paper sizes
Size mm × mm in × in
A0 841 × 1189 33.1 × 46.8
A1 594 × 841 23.4 × 33.1
A2 420 × 594 16.5 × 23.4
A3 297 × 420 11.7 × 16.5
A4 210 × 297 8.27 × 11.7
A5 148 × 210 5.83 × 8.27

To help the printer, label your CD/DVD/flash drive with your name, make sure you clearly identify the images you want to print, how many copies of each you want and whether you want matt or gloss paper. You should ask to see samples of prints on different sorts of paper as it can make a huge difference to the final result.

If you’re not happy with the result of the printing e.g. red or green tinge to colour not apparent on the screen, discuss with the printer and ask their advice. If it’s a processing problem they should redo it for free.  Over time you will find a source of prints that you like and trust and which best shows off your work.

SPF Audio Visual Presentation Day – Sunday 21st October

The Scottish Photographic Federation is putting on its annual day of presentations about putting sound to your images to make an audiovisual sequence. Several club members do this already but some world class speakers mean it might  well be worth the 45 min trip along the M8 to Bothwell for a Sunday outing. The details are attached

SCOTTISH PHOTOGRAPHIC FEDERATION

AUDIO VISUAL DAY 2012

All Camera Clubs affiliated to the  Scottish Photographic Federation with members who have an interest in Audio Visual please note that the 2012 SPF Audio Visual DAY will take place at

ST. BRIDES CHURCH HALL, FALLSIDE ROAD, BOTHWELL, G71 8BA

on SUNDAY 21st OCTOBER    10.00 am Start.

Please note that this is a change of date from that previously announced. This is due to circumstances outwith our control, and could not be avoided if the AV Day was to go ahead this year. We apologise for any inconvenience this change of date may cause to attendees, but hope you will still be able to attend.

The first session of the day will be devoted entirely for the showing of attendees own sequences.

This is your opportunity to show your latest digital sequence to an appreciative audience, with constructive comments from our guest speakers. If time allows, the audience will be invited to give their comments.

You can send your sequence with your Pre–Booking Slip or bring it on the day. It must be produced in Pic to Exe. or Proshow Gold as an executable file, and be able to run on any computer without additional software requirements, and return to the desktop after showing.  Sequence maximum run time   10.00 mins.

You may send/bring it on CD, Memory stick, or Memory card. Please don’t forget to put your name on it.

It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that any material recorded on Soundtrack or visually shown is suitably covered against copyright infringements. To show your sequence in public you must have

Mechanical Copyright Protection Society Licence, (MCPS) and a Phonographic Performance Licence (PPL). Please remember to complete the licence requirements on the booking slip.

By participating in this AV Day, authors of Audio Visual sequences indemnify the organisers against all and any other action, which may be taken against them by owners of copyrights. The organisers will accept no responsibility in the case of dispute or litigation.

Otter opportunity

We are trying to raise awareness of the unique photographic opportunities for otters on the Island of Carna in Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan on the West coast of Scotland.
We have had successful groups of photographers visiting the island either independently or on guided trips and are trying to spread the word about this wonderful place.
I would be keen to come along give a presentation and talk to your club members about the island and it’s wildlife if you thought it might be of interest to your membership.
Would it be possible to forward this e mail to your members?
Please see our web site (address below) and facebook page for some excellent examples of otter pictures.

advertising the annual Members’ Exhibition of Edinburgh Photographic Society.

“This year we have a bumper exhibition of 191 prints and 189 projected images which will be on display to the public for one day only Sunday March 23 between 11am and 5pm. This year’s exhibition is being judged by Hunter Kennedy, MPAGB ARPS EFIAP from Carluke.  Please come along and see what our members have been up to over the last year!  The prints will be on display in the Main Hall and there will be a loop presentation of the projected images upstairs.”

Club Meeting 03.0.13 Monochrome Competition closing date

Monochrome Competition

Clive is still away. We had a rather quiet meeting on 3rd January with a low ( but very select ! ) turnout of members. A lot of people are under the weather with horrible germs caught over the festive period. Others may have been still recovering from Hogmanay. Joe introduced a CD of images from the Dingwall Camera Club Open Competition in which some Musselburgh members did very well. It was good to see the range and style of the selected images.  In view of the low member turnout and the low number of entries for the Club Monochrome Competition,  Committee members decided to contact the judge and arrange an extension of the closing date for monochrome entries until next Thursday 10th January. So get your mono images  printed, mounted and entered next week !!
