Borders Digital Challenge 2017

What a fantastic collection of “still life” images we had on Thursday.

A reminder that Musselburgh Camera Club will be entering the 2017 “Borders Digital Challenge” competition this weekend. If you would like to support your club, come along to the Tower Mill Café Bar, Heart of Hawick, Tower Mill, Kirkstile, Hawick, TD9 0EA at 2pm on Sunday March 26th 2017. The competition is hosted by Harwick Camera Club and is taking place in the auditorium within the “Heart of Hawick“. Here is a map to help you find the way:

Photographers Needed at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh

I just received the following message from Kit Millar, the press seceretary at the Brunton Theatre. Would any club members be interested in photographing their dress rehearsal on Tuesday, 4th April. If so, please contact her at kitkirstymillar@gmail.com.

I was given your details by Jane Renton who is in the camera club but also in MAMA.  I am the press officer for MAMA this year.

We are performing Spamalot at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh from 5-8 April. We have a dress rehearsal on Tuesday 4th April and we’re wondering if a member of your club would like to come along to the dress to take some photos for us.

I’d be grateful if you could let me know if there is anyone who would be wanting to come along and do some photos. I would get them printed out on the Wednesday and then would make sure they were displayed in the foyer of the Brunton and also credit them if they were used in any reviews of the show or on our social media.

Thanks,

Kit

Reminder: Digital knockout competition on 23rd March

Hello everyone. I have returned from the Netherlands and will see you at the “Bad weather” set subject competition this Thursday.

A reminder that the Thursday after that (23rd March) we have the digital knockout competition with a “Still Life” theme. Unlike the other competitions, you don’t need to submit your digital images in advance; just bring your image with you on the night on a CD or USB data stick (and come early so we can load all the images up before we start). If you don’t have a suitable USB or can’t come early, you can email the image to George during the week. The images will be judged by members on the night, and there will be a special mystery prize for the winner.

“Still life” means photographing any group of inanimate objects  (e.g. food, flower arrangements, pebbles, crystals, sea shells, toys, books, household items, etc…) in a way that makes an interesting image. Have a look around your house and garden see what ideas you can find. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Steven.

Reminder: Club Meeting on 9th March is at Beeslack

A reminder that next week’s club meeting (i.e. the one on Thursday, 9th March) will be taking place at 7:30pm at Beeslack Penicuik Camera Club and not at Fisherrow. The club meets at Beeslack Penicuik Community High School, Edinburgh Road, Penicuik, Midlothian, EH26 0QF.

This is the repeat of the much-acclaimed presentation on Wildlife Photography by Ron McCombe, which we missed last time because of the snow. Here’s hoping for better weather next week.

Portrait Workshops

Mike

I would be grateful if you will post the details on the Web site in respect of the Portrait Workshop

I have booked our normal room 3 for the following dates 14th & 28th March 7.30 – 9.30pm.

Interested members are welcome to come along – the first evening will be used to famililarise ourselves with setting up and using the studio equipment and some practical work. Please bring along a camera and tripod if you have one.

The only cost the first night will be the cost of the room – if we then progress to hiring models then these will needed to be funded. If anyone has any volunteers to be models then this would keep costs down.

FIAP Colour Print & PDI Biennials

We need your photos!! – Themes ‘BEACH SCENES’ or ‘CREATIVE STILL LIFE’ – by 31st Jan 2016

Full Details from the PDF download link below

The deadline is fast approaching for both the FIAP Colour Print Biennial and the FIAP Projected Image Biennial, and although we have received a number of images from authors already, we could do with a few more to choose the strongest panel. We require a total of 30 photos to complete both of the above entries. Each panel must have a strong coherence both in subject, size and shape which makes it more difficult to select, so even if you have submitted entries on the above themes before, we would welcome any additional images you can send us.

Submission is open to all SPF Club members to submit images. PDIs only in the first instance please (1400×1050 or 1024×768 jpegs**) For the Beach Scenes category, please only submit Square or Landscape format images. The Creative Still Life Format has yet to be determined. If your entry is selected we will require a file 2400 pixels on the longest side for PDI use or a file capable of printing A3 size. Please send your photos to Clive Turner, FIAP Liaison Officer to the email address supplied at the bottom of this email.

If you have a change in your Club Committee from the people receiving this email please let us know now as we are updating the SPF Directory for issue early 2017.

We require all of the following details not just an email address – Name, Postal address, Phone Number and email address please. Those details should be sent to Libby Smith as soon as possible on the contact details below
or 34 Braemar Crescent, Carluke ML8 4BH

Kind regards,
Libby Smith

Wildlife set subject – extended deadline

George has received disappointingly few entries for the Wildlife set subject competition. I’m going to extend the deadline by a few days to allow time for some last minute entries. Please search your images and find some wildlife shots. Even if you can enter only 1 or 2 images, it’s better than none. If you don’t have any shots yet, you don’t have to spend the weekend on safari. A macro shot of a snail in your garden or an insect on a flower is just as valid.

Please send up to 3 JPEG’s to George by Wednesday 25th January at the latest.

Best of luck,

Steven.
