Club Meeting 12.09.13

I was sorry that I missed Joe’s talk on Thursday, Lynn has advised me that Joe gave a great presentation which was well received by all members.  He spoke about light and composition and how that impacted on your image. To get the best image possible, it is crucial to consider the light, time of day and view point.  He also explained about what judges look for to give a high mark out of 20.  He spoke about varying colour of mounts and how this can make an image more eyecatching and also using letter box presentation.

So there should now be no excuse for not putting your images into the competitions!!

On that point please do not forget to get two digital images onto a CD with the file name only showing your club number followed by the image title and bring it along to the next meeting (Thursday 19.09.12), for the ‘Digital Image Club Competition’.

Next week we have our first major talk by Hunter Kennedy, who is a highly qualified photographer

Hunter Kennedy has been a member of Carluke CC for over 30 years and has held several offices including President. He has taken his photography seriously since 2000 and by 2009 had achieved both EFIAP and MPAGB.

He is a regular supporter of International Salons and is in demand in the UK as a lecturer and judge. Hunter’s main photographic interests are landscape and people, which he prefers not posed or rehearsed, a pure candid shot.

I recommend that all members make an effort to come along and hear him talk and see his amazing prints.

D90 camera

Hi all,

does anybody in the club use a nikon D90 camera.  I need 3 minutes with one to see if it fits in my u/w housing. Dry land experience. If you have and dont mind bringing it into the club it would be a great help.

Cheers

SPF Audio Visual Presentation Day – Sunday 21st October

The Scottish Photographic Federation is putting on its annual day of presentations about putting sound to your images to make an audiovisual sequence. Several club members do this already but some world class speakers mean it might  well be worth the 45 min trip along the M8 to Bothwell for a Sunday outing. The details are attached

Website Refresh

Hi All,

The website is going through a bit of a refresh at the moment so if you notice strange things happening, don’t worry too much.   I’d welcome ongoing comments on how the website might be developed to make it more interactive so if you have any ideas please let me know.  I have added a MCC Twitter feed so if you are a Twitter user, please follow the club .

Aside

This post has come from one of the groups I belong to on Facebook, you may want to check with the Waverley Station for confirmation of times and vantage points enroute

A wee reminder that the A1 Steam Locomotive ‘Tornado’ (in its shiny new blue livery) is due to arrive in Waverley Station at 1540 on Tuesday 11th June, it’s coming from Newcastle so to the East of the station. Possible photo ops…maybe Regent Rd, Abbeyhill/mount, for an Arthurs Seat backdrop? Jacobs Ladder for a birds eye view or of course in the station itself (which will undoubtedly be packed with ‘spotters’) 😉

hope it’s of use to some of you

Tuesday Post processing groups- going forward

Dear all

I’ve been heartened at the general turnout for the group- I estimate that we’ve had between a third and  half of all individual club members come along at different times over the 4 sessions.

One of the main issues for me is that I’m not a photoshop expert, nor a teacher- on this basis I look at what I want to do and try to find a means of covering that at the groups.  That will only work for so long and to make it relevant going forward it would help to have feedback from you on what you would like from a post processing workshop.  That would be topics, tasks, level of expertise, how the workshops are approached- anything really that will maintain interest and help us all improve our post processing skills.

If you could provide your comments through the website in response to this post then that will let everyone see what is being asked for and feed from others thoughts.

Next workshop is planned for 3rd Thursday in September- 19th September I make it and I’d like some time over the summer to prepare for this.

Photoshop

It seems Adobe are going to hold photographers to ransom. The next version of CS will only be available on Cloud. This will mean subscription and no facility to buy outright. No matter what excuse Adobe give it is obvious what this means. If you have an already released version of Photoshop then that’s the version you stay with unless you sign on for Cloud membership when it starts. For now Elements and Lightroom are not affected but for how long will that be the case?
