Good afternoon. My name is Scott Johnston and I help run the Scottish Police Rugby Section and we are hosting our first game in over 2 years on Wednesday the 15th September at Musselburgh Rugby Club. It’s an evening kick off (7:30pm) and the game is being used as a trial match to pick our national team to take on the English police later this year.
I was wondering if any of your members would be interested in attending and taking some pictures of the match.
thanks Scott
Please contact Elaine Gilroy (elainegilroy@hotmail.com) if you would like to get in touch with Scott.
We started the 2021/2022 club season with a new meeting format. Our 2019/2020 club season was interrupted by the Covid pandemic and our 2020/2021 season was entirely virtual, with meetings hosted by Zoom. This year we moved to a hybrid format. 17 club members gathered at the Fisherrow Centre and another 6 joined us by Zoom. I was delighted to welcome 4 potential new members! There had been some changes at the Fisherrow Centre since we were last there, and our projection screen has been replaced by an entire section of the wall coated with screen paint. During the meeting we displayed the mounted prints that had been left at Fisherrow, and club members had a chance to retrieve their own prints.
The last meeting held at the Fisherrow Centre was on the 19th March 2020, when we viewed and commented on images provided in advance by Mölnlycke Fotoclubb, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Our last club meeting at the Fisherrow Centre in 2020.
Those were the last images projected at Fisherrow in 2020, and they were the first images projected at Fisherrow now we are back in 2021. During the lockdown we learned that Zoom can connect you with people who would be too far away to travel to a regular club meeting, and a year later we hosted our Swedish interclub live with with members of Mölnlycke Fotoclubb.
Zoom gives us the chance to reach out to other clubs who would otherwise be too far away.
I hope the new hybrid meeting format will give us the best of both worlds. We have a packed programme coming up, with a mixture of face to face meetings at Fisherrow plus virtual events hosted by Zoom and played at Fisherrow.
Thank you to everyone who came to Fisherrow, and thank you to everyone who connected by Zoom. At our next meeting we will connect with Beeslack Penicuik Camera Club by Zoom, where speaker John Nathan will talk about travel photography. I will send the Zoom information to members before the meeting. The meeting will also be shown in room G3 at Fisherrow.
The Hawick to Edinburgh stage of the 2021 Tour of Britain cycle race takes place on 11th September 2021. The route takes the cyclists through the Scottish borders and offers the opportunity to photograph cyclists against a scenic backdrop. Full information can be found on the Tour of Britain web site (link below).
Our opening night for the 2021/22 season is happening tonight, 2nd September 2021! Please come along to rooms G2/G3 of the Fisherrow Centre in Musselburgh at 7:30pm if you are interested in joining the club or chatting to members.
The Musselburgh Camera Club opening night will take place at 7:30pm on Thursday, 2nd September 2021 in rooms G2 and G3 of the Fisherrow Centre. This year we will be experimenting with a hybrid arrangement that will let members join our meetings either in person at Fisherrow or by Zoom using a computer. If you have been missing the face to face chat, come along to the Fisherrow Centre. If you prefer to connect by Zoom, that option will also be available.
There will be an introduction to our new 2021/22 programme during the evening and an opportunity to look at and pick up prints that have been stored in our cupboards since 2020.
Please note that the tea and coffee arrangements at Fisherrow are different this year. If you would like tea or coffee, please bring along your own mug.
I look forward to seeing you all back at the club either in person or on the computer screen. All the best,
The Battle of Prestonpans re-enactment takes place this year at Greenhills park in Prestonpans during the weekend of Saturday, 18th and Sunday, 19th September 2021. More information and tickets can be found at the following link:
The club has been contacted with information about the Royal Overseas League photography competition, which is free to enter and open to everyone over the age of 18. The competition is open until 6th September 2021 and is accepting digital images on the theme of “International Friendship”. Not many of us have travelled overseas recently, but perhaps you have some images which fit the subject?
The Fisherrow Centre are looking for some nice prints of Musselburgh (such as the harbour or river Esk) to be displayed on a wall in a small upstairs room they have recently upgraded. They have funding for the upgrade, so they could pay for new prints if necessary.
If you have any nice shots of Musselburgh you would be happy to see displayed on a wall at the Fisherrow Centre, please let me know (StevenMBeard@aol.com) and I’ll pass on your details. It sounds like an opportunity to advertise your work and advertise the club.
